Are you looking for family fun in Southwestern Michigan or Northwestern Indiana? Here are some of our favorite places to visit
- Head over to St. Joseph, MI for the Splash Pad and grab a slice of pizza at Silver Beach Pizza.
- Visit the animals at Potawatomi Zoo – The oldest zoo in Indiana.
- Central Park in Mishawaka – Our newest find! A smaller splash pad and play area. The perfect place to have a picnic!
- Make sure to catch a South Bend Cubs game.
See the area that we live in is coined ‘ Michiana’. On the border of Michigan and Indiana. Head to Kalamazoo or to South Bend in equal time. Plus we are about equally 2-1/2 hours from Detroit, Indianapolis, and Chicago.
No matter where we head off to, whether it’s a park or a cookout, these sandwiches are a special treat to take.
For these sliders, I use sweet Hawaiian rolls to make them. The slider buns come in a package that can be used to get them where they are going without worrying about extra storage.
Ingredients
These ham and cheese sliders on Hawaiian sweet rolls have-
- Hawaiian sweet rolls. My favorite brand, Kings Hawaiian, comes in a tray with a plastic bag. Once the sliders are made, just place them back into the bag for safekeeping until you are ready to eat.
- Spreadable cream cheese mixed with garlic, oregano, and parsley. This type of cream cheese is easy to add seasonings to and makes spreading so easy you won’t rip the bread.
- Deli black forest ham and hard salami. These are my two favorite types of meat but feel free to use other flavor combinations.
- Slices of beefsteak tomato. Nothing says summer like a tomato from the garden.

Cream Cheese Slider Sandwiches
How to make cream cheese slider sandwiches step-by-step
First, let’s make the herbed cream cheese. Take a 16-ounce tub of spreadable cream cheese, and add garlic powder, oregano, and parsley, then stir to combine.
Cut the buns in half, placing the bottom half back into the box that the rolls originally came in.
Spread half of the cream cheese on the buns. Layer the hard salami, black forest ham, and sliced tomatoes.
Taking the top half spread the rest of the cream cheese on it, then put it on top.
Cut into individual sandwiches with a large serrated knife.
Open the plastic bag and slowly slide the container back into it. Secure with the plastic tie.
How to transport ham and cheese sliders to your favorite picnic location
- Use the packaging from the rolls. Since they were made right in the paper tray now just cover them with two pieces of plastic wrap and put them back into the bag.
- Tie with the plastic tie.
- Place the sandwiches at the top of your cooler so they don’t get flattened.
Storage
As noted above, use the original package for the slider buns to store the sandwiches.
Freezing is not recommended for this recipe.

Notes
Tips for making this recipe:
- Use the packaging from the rolls. Since they were made right in the paper tray now just cover with two pieces of plastic wrap and put back into the bag.
- Tie with the plastic tie.
- Place the sandwiches at the top of your cooler so they don’t get flattened.
- To store: be sure to add these to a cooler for transporting and eating as soon as possible. If making these at home to eat, keep covered, and eat within 2 days, the bread can tend to get soggy if not eaten right away. You can avoid this by leaving off the tomato slices and only adding them right before eating.
